The Sanskrit word bhakti comes from the root bhaj, which means “to adore or worship God.” Bhakti yoga has been called “love for love’s sake” and “union through love and devotion.” Bhakti yoga, like any other form of yoga, is a path to self-realization, to having an experience of oneness with everything.
This session will include a naturalistic-friendly introduction to the 9 kinds of bhakti, a seemless 90 minutes of flowing vinyasa built upon a steady ujjāyī breath with music composed specifically for yoga. Michael’s style of viñyāsa synthesizes Ashtanga-like sun salutations, Jivamukti-style sequencing, Anusara-inspired alignment and yin postures at the end to facilitate relaxation and inner peace. Our session will conclude after śavāsana with a Kīrtan of universal mantras for inner and outer peace. A class for everyone, no experience necessary!
Michael Johnson has been teaching for over twelve years. Since he can remember, his parents were his first and perfect teachers in this life. In a way, everyone he meets continues to teach him perfectly by being examples of both how and how not to live. It is Michael’s honor, privilege and hope to return the kindness that so many people have bestowed upon him, by teaching the highest practices of Yoga to all levels of practitioners… responsibly, joyfully, and in a way that will help others achieve their goals in this life and beyond.
